As part of a working visit to the Atyrau Region, Askhat Khassenov, Chairman of the Management Board of JSC NC KazMunayGas, visited the construction site of the Silleno polyethylene plant with a production capacity of 1.25 million tonnes per year.

Preparations are currently underway for a new stage of works – the installation of the first oversized equipment. The fractionation column for the pyrolysis unit, manufactured by the Kazakh company AtyrauNefteMash, is 101.8 metres high, 7.5 metres in diameter and weighs
approximately 1,500 tonnes.

For its installation, one of the world’s largest crawler cranes, with a maximum lifting capacity of 4,000 tonnes, has been delivered to the Atyrau Region. The crane was assembled at the construction site.

The management of Silleno LLP, headed by General Director Mukhtar Avutbayev, briefed the head of KMG on the current status of the project, the progress of construction and installation works, and the key stages of its further implementation.

At the pyrolysis unit, where ethylene will be produced, foundation works for buildings, equipment and pipe racks are ongoing and have reached 57%. Steel structure installation and prefabrication of process piping are also in progress. Installation of furnaces and cryogenic tanks has commenced. The first units of oversized equipment have already been delivered to the site.

At the polymerisation unit and UI&O facilities, piling works are ongoing and have reached 74%, alongside foundation construction.

Overall project progress currently stands at 36%. The works are being carried out in accordance with the approved schedule.

Since the start of construction and installation works, the project has achieved 6 million man-hours without a lost-time injury (LTI). More than 3,400 people and over 600 units of specialised equipment are currently engaged at the construction site.

Particular attention is being paid to the development of local content. To date, contracts worth a total of USD 1.205 billion have been awarded to Kazakh companies. They are involved at all stages of the project, from engineering and the manufacture of equipment and materials to construction and installation works.
